A pediatric speech pathologist is a speech pathologist who deals exclusively with children. The speech program which you need to follow is different in every individual case. There is no substitute for experience, and that can only be gained by years of practice. This is one of the reasons why the year you complete under supervision is so important. Although you cannot hope to reach full maturity in one year, the supervisor can help you learn the basics of the job, and give you the basis from which to build your career. Once you are qualified, you can choose to specialize and develop in depth knowledge of one specific branch of the discipline. If you love children, you may well find great reward in a career as a pediatric speech pathologist.
